For Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, running out of parking space was a good problem to have. It meant that the attractions in place were indeed attractive, drawing in regional, national and even international guests. And while the lack of parking space on the outside was an indicator of popularity, a good problem to have is still a problem nonetheless. Especially when the zoo interior had ample room for guests. So in 2010, the zoo sat down with Executive Director and CEO Dennis Pate to devise a new master plan to make room for its future.

“The first thing we wanted to do when I stepped in was to take a comprehensive look at the entire zoo at the master plan level,” Pate explains. “We brought in architects that specialize in doing this type of work for zoos and developed a complete master plan for the entire campus from parking to the front gate to new exhibits. That was completed in June of 2010 15 months after I became director in March of 2009.”

Most destination music festivals in the United States and around the world share a few common traits, including a two- or three-day time frame, a genre-specific focus and ticket prices averaging in the triple digits. Milwaukee’s Summerfest breaks this mold, and in doing so has become recognized by Guinness World Records as the World's Largest Music Festival.

“There are a variety of aspects that make Summerfest unique,” says John Boler, chief marketing officer of Milwaukee World Festival Inc. The 501c3 nonprofit organization produces the 11-day festival, which annually attracts and hosts approximately 900,000 festival-goers in late June and early July. “From a programming or talent standpoint, there's not another festival on the planet that offers the scope, scale and diversity of talent that our festival delivers.”

Grand Canyon Resort Corp. continues to develop its infrastructure to position itself to build additional amenities to enhance guests’ experience of the Grand Canyon and Colorado River.

The resort is owned and operated by the Hualapai Tribe and located on the tribe’s reservation. Under the Grand Canyon Resort’s umbrella are Grand Canyon West, Hualapai River Runners and Hualapai Lodge in Peach Springs, Ariz. “We started 25 years ago and it’s pretty amazing the tribal leaders had the great vision of how Grand Canyon West could become one of the most beautiful areas to view one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the world,” CEO Jennifer Turner says. “We are pleased to share this experience with all whom come to visit.”

The secret to success is to focus on “the basics,” says Jim Goddard, executive vice president. The SAP Center at San Jose hosts 170 events per year. With a capacity of 17,562 for hockey games, it goes without saying that entertaining all those Silicon Valley fans is no small task.
