By Janice Hoppe-Spiers, Senior Editor at Knighthouse Media

In June, Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP®) will bring together the brightest minds and hottest technologies from across the globe in Houston during the annual Hospitality Industry Technology Exposition and Conference (HITEC®). HITEC is the world’s largest and oldest hospitality technology exposition and conference brand.

HITEC was established in 1972 and offers its more than 6,000 attendees from around the world with essential education, access to top hospitality technology industry experts and the resources to find cost-effective ways to improve company bottom lines. The event historically takes place in a different city throughout the United States, but last year HFTP decided to break tradition and host three HITEC events outside the country in Toronto, Amsterdam and Dubai.

This year, HITEC was held in Amsterdam April 11-13 and will be held in Houston from June 18-21 and in Dubai from Dec. 5-6. Each year, the HITEC Advisory Council identifies the top technology issues and trends of interest in the industry.

What to Expect

HITEC will feature a number of education sessions in Houston that include investing in technology, IT initiatives, security needs and personal privacy, artificial intelligence, the making of a perfect hotel room and how millennials are reshaping the industry. The exhibit floor will be open June 19-21.

HITEC TechEntrepreneur 20X made its debut at HITEC 2015 and offers attendees the opportunity to watch some of the most innovative start-ups in the hospitality technology industry compete in HFTP’s E20X pitch competition. Participating start-ups will pitch cutting-edge ideas to a room full of HITEC attendees, as well as a panel of expert judges that include hospitality CIOs, angel investors, serial entrepreneurs and industry insiders. E20X pitch competition will be held June 18.

Former White House CIO and Cybersecurity Authority Theresa Payton will present the closing keynote address on June 21. Payton was the first female to serve as the White House CIO and was No. 4 on IFSEC Global’s list of the world’s top 50 cybersecurity influencers in security and fire in 2017. She will focus on the cyber-underworld and the new kinds of threats that can lead to tomorrow’s breaches and insider risks.

“Payton offers a proven blueprint for audiences to stay a step ahead with practical steps for thinking like the adversary while managing cybersecurity risk,” HFTP says. “Her distinct approachability combined with her visionary perspective and easy-to-implement strategies effectively prepare audiences for success in the ongoing battle against cybercrime.”
