Sheraton Steamboat Resort & Villas

Sheraton Steamboat Resort & Villas has experienced greater success by offering a new room product called mountain suites. “We have seen a 40 percent [revenue] increase over last year,” General Manager Dan Pirrallo says.

Last winter marked the introduction of Sheraton Steamboat Resort & Villas’ 56 new mountain suites. The studios feature two queen beds, mini kitchen and washer/dryer, and the one-bedroom units feature full kitchen, washer/dryer, fireplace, dining room and a balcony with views of Mount Werner.

One of the best features, the resort points out, is that a one bedroom and studio can connect to make a two bedroom suite. Three bedroom suites are also available.

The mountain suites are sized up to 1,700 square feet and located just steps from the ski slopes.

“These walk-off units meet the needs of our customers. They are what many are really looking for,” Pirrallo says. “It allows a family traveling together to prepare meals in the unit. Children can have various snacks throughout the day and [families] can do the laundry when they have wet clothing after coming off mountain.”

The new mountain suites have not only resulted in increased revenue for the resort. They have also increased options for extended-stay guests with the money-saving kitchen and laundry features. Acclaimed interior designer Kimberly Timmons designed the new mountain suites.

The 56 new mountain suites were completed in a 2013 renovation. Sheraton Steamboat Resort & Villas new snow melted front driveway and pool deck also increase guest safety while reducing costs for the resort with their energy-efficient boilers.

Sheraton Steamboat Resort & Villas boasts 188 standard guestrooms, 56 mountain suites and 20 condos for a total of 264 keys. In addition, the hotel has 21 luxury villas via Starwood vacation ownership group. To please its guests, the resort includes five hot tubs, fire pits, Sevens Restaurant, Saddles Bar & Grill,  the Breezeway Cafe, ski rentals, a swimming pool, 25,000 square feet of meeting space and the 18-hole Rollingstone Ranch golf course.

There is also a promenade at the mountain base area and a yoga studio in the resort.

“Last winter season was very strong,” Pirrallo says. “The introduction of the mountain suites was key to our strength.”

Family Friendly

Steamboat is located in the northwest portion of Colorado in a ranching and cattle town. “That’s how Steamboat originated,” Pirrallo says. “It is very different than Vail, Aspen and Telluride. It is more of a family environment.

“Every Friday and Saturday in the summer, there is a rodeo and the community prides itself on not being ostentatious,” he adds. “It is not a location to be seen for celebrities. It is a low-key community.”

In addition to downhill skiing, there are many other things to do at the resort including hiking and walking trails, cross-country ski paths, snow shoeing, snow cat rides, dinners on the mountain, ski bicycles, tubing, ice skating and sleigh rides.

Summer Fun

Sheraton Steamboat Resort & Villas is also a summer mountain getaway, with guests fly fishing, horseback riding and hiking the mountain trails. There are summer concerts and festivals to enjoy and a newly expanded creek beach for sunbathing.

“It is very busy at the base of the mountain,” Pirrallo says.

Although Steamboat is known for its world-class skiing, year-round activities bring active guests to the area in every season.

“A stone’s throw out our door you can enjoy summer activity on the ski mountain, gondola rides, guided hikes, cycling, [an] activity adventure zone for the kids, and casual to elegant dining,” the resort explains about its offerings. “For the adventure seeker, embark on a hot air balloon ride, waterfall tour, ATV guided tours and much more.”
